Dear friends,
A very Happy New Year to you all. I hope each one of us can find our path to a deeper and more fulfilling way to experience our lives. The blessings continue to pour around us & into us each and every second whether we are aware of it or not. I pray we all find a moment to touch that flowing river of vibration which will sustain us for the rest of our lives. Lets lean into a great year!

In December 2011, I completed my annual Australian tour which was, as always, such a pleasure. I love seeing all my good Australian friends who have supported the music I have brought over the past 6 years.


親愛なる皆様へ。
明けましておめでとうございます。本年も皆様がそれぞれの道を深め、より充実した日々を過ごされますよう願っています。気づくかどうかはさておき、幸運は常に私たちの内外に降り注いでいるのですから、私たち皆が生命を維持し続けている振動の流れを内に感じられるよう祈っています。さぁ、素晴らしい年へと乗り出しましょう。

さて、例年通り多くの喜びとともに年末に行われた年に一度のオーストラリアツアーについて書きたいと思います。これ迄過去６年に渡りツアーを支えてくださっている良き友やファンの皆様にお会いできるのはこの上ない幸せです。

今回のツアーは名バイオリニスト、カラー・ラマナスという素晴らしい音楽家とともに行われました。最新コンサートの模様はこのブログの後半、またはユーチューブでご覧いただけます。

I was very humbled, as I am every time I play with her. The vocal tradition from which she comes is vast and regarding accompaniment, is a specialized art form. Kalaji learned from her grandfather who was a renowned Classical Indian violinist. Her training began at the age of 2 1/2 and in the years that followed, he gave her many of the skills she needed to excel well beyond the expectations of her family and peers. Then, as a teenager, she studied and traveled extensively with vocal maestro, Pandit Jasraj. So Kala's unique combination of highly refined instrumental technique and a vast knowledge of the vocal tradition has brought her to a un-paralleled position as a violinist. The music flows so naturally from her, that it appears as though it is an effortless flow, like a wave of a hand or a smile or a sunset.

ヴォーカリストとしてのバックグラウンドが色濃く反映された彼女との共演は、毎回もっと音楽の知識を深めたいと思わされるものでした。カラーさんは２歳半からインド古典バイオリニストとして名高い祖父より教育を受け、ヴァイオリニスト一家はじめ同僚の予想を遥かに上回る技術を習得した歴史を持ちます。そして10代になると著名なヴォーカリスト、パンディット・ジャスラージとのツアーを通してバイオリン、ヴォーカルについての学びを深めました。そんなカラーさん特有の演奏形式は優れたバイオリン技術と幅広い伝承ボーカルの知識からなり、彼女を他のバイオリニストと一線を画すものにする理由でもあります。音楽は彼女からごく自然に、それも、バイバイと手を振ったり笑ったり、日が暮れるように当たり前のように流れ出すのです。

We began our tour in Hawaii. One concert on Kauai and one concert in Maui. My dear friend Mike Crall produced these concerts as he has done for the past 5 years. We had a wonderful time on the Islands and the concerts were packed and full of music loving people. It always moves a musician to deeper emotional states to have an audience that really wants to listen and share in the creation of music. Hawaii was a wonderful example of this important interaction.

今回のツアーはハワイが出発地でした。カウアイ島、マウイ島でのコンサートは過去５年同様、親友であるマイク・クラール氏のプロデュースで叶えられました。島では素晴らしい時間を過ごし、またコンサートは音楽を愛する人々で満員となりました。音楽を真に求め、その創造の一端を担う観衆との出会いはいつも音楽家の感受性を高めます。ハワイはこうした大切な相互作用のあった一例となる素晴らしいツアーでした。

Also, while on Maui, I was honored to be hosted by Akari Ueoka and Paia Yoga for my second "Musical Universe" workshop. Akari did such a first class job producing this introductory workshop, that it was full of many wonderful people who were both residents of the Islands as well as visitors from the main land and the UK. One of the real treats for me was the presence of one of my all time music heros, Mick Fleetwood. He was of course a key figure in the band Fleetwood Mac as well as a major musical force through out the 70s and 80s. We had an immediate deep connection and have kept in touch ever since. また、マウイ島ではウエオカアカリさんやパイヤヨガさんのおかげで第二回「ミュージカルユニバース」のワークショップを開催する事が出来ました。アカリさんのきめ細かいプロデュース力のおかげでマウイ島在住の方初めアメリカ本土やイギリスからたくさんの素晴らしい方々にご参加いただく事が出来ました。その中には音楽界でいつも私のヒーロー的存在であるミック・フリットウッド氏の姿もあり、この上ない幸せでした。彼はもちろんフリックウッドマックというバンドのキーパーソンであり、７０年代、８０年代のミュージックシーンに多大な影響を与えた人物でもあります。私たちはすぐに意気投合し、以来連絡を取り合う仲です。もし彼の素晴らしい偉業についてまだご存じない方がいらっしゃいましたら是非上のリンク（彼の名前をクリックして）をご覧ください。

Then we flew off to Australia for the seventh annual music tour. We played in many of the major north/western cites including Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra, Byron Bay, Newcastle and Hobart Tasmania. As tradition has it, I rented a 4 wheel drive SUV and drove to most of our events which I enjoy since the Australian outback is an amazing place to experience.

こうして私たちは毎年恒例のオーストラリアツアーへと飛び立ち、シドニーやメルボルン、キャンベラ、バイロンベイ、ニューキャッスル、タスマニア島など北東部の都市を中心に、いつも通りレンタルしたSUVの四駆車で広大な風景を楽しみながらほとんどの会場を巡ったのでした。

I challenged a barista (coffee maker) at the Brisbane airport to make me a
latte with a grizzly bear in the foam... and wow, she did such a great job!

As some of you may know from reading earlier diary entries, Chris Hooper is the reason I come to Australia. She was a key figure helping produce the first two Krishna Das tours and the person in Australia I had an immediate friendship with back in 2004. She has been my sponsor for all these years and continues to be such an amazing supporter of the arts for Australia. She has, in recent years, also become co-ordinator for His Holiness, the Dalai Lama's Australia tours. She is indeed a brilliant soul, doing great work for us all out there in the world.

私の日記を少し前から読んでくださっている方々にはもうおなじみかもしれませんが、クリス・フーパーさんは私がオーストラリアを訪れる理由そのものでもあります。彼女はオーストラリアで初めて行われたクリシュナダスさんとの２つのツアーのメインプロデューサーであり、2004年の出会いとともに意気投合した仲間でもあります。以来長年私のサポーターであり続けてくださり、またオーストラリアを中心に芸術を支える素晴らしい人物です。近年ではダライラマ氏のオーストラリアツアーのコーディネーターとしても活躍されています。世界をまたにかけ人々のために活動する、内面から輝く魂の持ち主です。

In Hobart Tasmania, we had a lovely concert as well as a special "Musical Universe" workshop. These events were produced by my friend Sharon East who did a great job producing and is a shining light for yoga in the Hobart area.

ホバートタスマニアでは愛すべきコンサート、参加者のモチベーションの高い特別な「ミュージカルユニバース」ワークショップを開催する事が出来ました。これもこの地域でヨガの世界を照らす光、そして友人であるシャロン・イーストさんの素晴らしいプロデュースのおかげです、ありがとうございました。

These last concerts mark the end of an amazing year of music. I feel very blessed to have the opportunity to play with artists such as Kala Ramnath and learn about the power and presence within music each and every time. This coming month I finally have the exciting release of a CD with Kala called "Samay Chakra". It is released on Tala Records and available for purchase now. It will be my first fully classical recording. Please check it out and I hope you enjoy.

ツアーが終わりに近づくにつれ2011年も幕を閉じようとしているのを感じました。カラー・ラマナスさんのような優れたアーティストと演奏する機会に恵まれ、その度に音楽の秘める力や今ここに存在する事そのものを学べることに感謝しています。そして今まさに制作中のカラー・ラマナースさんとの新作CD「サマイチャクラ」が完成を間近に控えているのにも興奮を隠せません。このCDは私のレーベルであるタラレコードから発売され、現在既に予約注文を開始しています。今回は私にとって全曲古典インド音楽でまとめた初のCDとなります。一人でも多くの方にお楽しみいただけましたら幸いです。
